King Triton is a major character who first appeared in The Little Mermaid. He is the widowed, overprotective, albeit well-intentioned father of Ariel and her sisters, who rules the undersea kingdom of Atlantica.
Role[]
In the stage adaptation of the film, Triton's role is similar to that of the original. However, it also adds in a twist that Ursula is his sibling (based on a deleted concept from the original film). It also reveals that the reason why he exiled Ursula was because of her attempting to gain the Trident while she was inherited with the nautilus. He also has his own musical number in a reprise of "The World Above", where he forbids Ariel from pursuing Eric and the human world as a whole.
